  1. PSALM READING (RESPONSIVE READING) : Psalm 89:2-9

89:2   I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

89:3   You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,

89:4   ’I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”

89:5   The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

89:6   For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?

89:7   In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.

89:8   Who is like you, LORD God Almighty? You, LORD, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

89:9   You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until You come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

  1. SERMON TEXT : Isaiah 42:1-9

42:1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.

42:2   He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.

42:3   A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

42:4   he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”

42:5   This is what God the LORD says — the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:

42:6   “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,

42:7   to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

42:8      “I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.

42:9      See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.”

  1. THE APOSTLE’S CREED (CONFESS IN UNISON)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

And we shall gather, Savior, with Thee,
In our eternal home.

Let every heart leap forth and rejoice;
And let us freely make Him our choice;
Do not delay, but come.
